Job Summary The Supervisor, Radiology plans, supervises, and coordinates the clinical operations of a medical imaging area. Collaborates with providers to ensure the efficient completion of daily work and minimal waiting time for patients. Is responsible for quality management, safety, patient care, scheduling, inventory control, financial and customer service functions. May function as a technologist as staffing needs and certification dictates.
Core Job Responsibilities
Supervises, assigns, and organizes the daily activities of the assigned technologists. Responsible for delivering quality diagnostic services and a high level of patient care. Promotes effective teamwork throughout the department and assists staff through upcoming and ongoing changes.
Handles department staffing, scheduling, vacation requests and call outs.
Serves as a liaison, resource and role model to teammates, students and providers.
Ensures processes for complete and accurate documentation are followed, including correct patient ID on images, imaging performance according to provider's order, history and consent forms are complete, authorized signatures are in place, and appropriate chart notations such as patient education entry and provider order sign‑off.
Ensures correct patient charges are completed by end of each shift. Performs patient charge audits.
Responsible for compliance with all regulatory standards (Federal, State, ACR, etc.). Ensures staff understand and adhere to regulations.
Monitors images for quality and completeness. Documents provider complaints and follows up to resolution.
Leads or participates in performance improvement activities.
Follows up on patient incidents or complaints and completes appropriate documentation.
Ensures rooms, equipment, and work areas are clean and restocked with adequate linen and supplies.
Researches, develops, and implements new protocols and procedures.
Monitors and troubleshoots equipment or procedure problems. Follows up with service calls. Keeps documentation and logs of preventative maintenance and service for equipment.
Identifies problem areas, offers suggestions for improvement, and implements corrective actions.
Keeps Director updated of any concerns, issues or problems.
Trains teammates on technical procedures performed in the department and documents competency.
With leadership and Human Resources guidance, provides input or makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, salary changes, disciplinary actions, terminations and similar actions. Resolves grievances and other employee problems in a fair, timely and consistent manner also in conjunction with HR. Responsible for the completion of performance appraisals.
Assists with budget monitoring and submits capital equipment purchase recommendations to the Director.
Is available and flexible to take calls as required to ensure supervisory or other coverage for the area.
Works as a technologist when needed.
Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees.
Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
Minimum 1 year of experience as a diagnostic radiology tech.
Demonstrated ability to lead, guide and motivate staff.
Preferred
Management experience in an acute care radiology setting.
Licensure & Certification Requirements
Completion of a formal Radiologic Technology Program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education (JRCME).
Radiologic Technologist License issued by NYSDOH.
ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) registration.
