Electrical Inspector I & II (Grade 15-16)
The Inspection Department enforces building codes and issues building permits for the City of Huntsville. Our goal is to provide protection for the health, safety, and welfare of the general public in relation to the use and occupancy of structures by enforcement of adopted Building Codes and to protect the general public from abuse by unlicensed contractors and sub‑contractors by enforcement of Contractor Licensing Laws.
Work involves conducting inspections of a wide variety of electrical installations in residential, commercial, and industrial settings to determine whether plans, workmanship, and materials comply with related codes and ordinances governing the installation of electrical systems.
Electrical Inspector I Position Overview, Qualifications And Necessary Requirements
High school diploma from an accredited regional agency or GED certificate, or graduation from a vocational school accredited by a recognized agency, combined with experience as a journeyman-level electrician or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Current State of Alabama Certified Journeyman Electrician upon hire and must be maintained.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Electrical Inspector II Position Overview, Qualifications And Necessary Requirements
Advanced journeyman-level inspection work, leading, assisting, and advising other inspectors and conducting more difficult and complex inspections.
Alabama Certified Journeyman Electrician or International Code Council certification as an electrical inspector.
Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
Ten years of electrical trade experience required.
