Under limited supervision, is responsible for acting as a lead mechanic in diagnosing and troubleshooting problems with all City equipment, machinery and vehicles and performing responsible skilled work on all types of heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment. Repairs and services a wide variety of medium and heavy gasoline and diesel driven machinery and hydraulic equipment. Operates trade related equipment and tools; inspects work done by subordinates. Assigns mechanics to various repair and maintenance duties. Reports to the Fleet Management Manager.
ADA REQUIREMENTS: Individual’s sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position.

Operates various types of equipment, machinery, instruments and specialized tools necessary to perform mechanic duties. Inspects and troubleshoots problems and adjusts, replace and/or make necessary recommendations. Performs duties of Fleet Management Manager in his/her absence. Inspects work being done or completed by other subordinates and may peer review to certify that work has been completed to satisfaction. Prepares vehicle shop repair records. Distributes work orders. Orders parts. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals to include City employees, vendors and suppliers. Supervises Automotive Mechanic I Other duties as required. Qualifications
High school diploma graduate or GED. Vocational coursework in automotive coursework in automotive and heavy equipment repair. Five years’ experience in automotive repair and maintenance. Two years’ experience with fleet management software. Excellence in many areas of vehicle repairs. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license with satisfactory driving record throughout employment. CDL Class A or B required within 6 months of hire. Must possess working knowledge of various tools, machinery and equipment used to perform duties as required. Must possess basic knowledge of word processing, data base and other computer skills. Work involves physical activity including, but not limited to, walking, lifting, climbing, crawling, carrying, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling sometimes in very confined spaces. Must be able to lift 60 pounds. Applicants who demonstrate they meet the minimum requirements may be subject to an extensive selection process and screening program, which may include, but not be limited to, evaluation of education, training, and experience; oral interview(s); background investigation; reference checks; medical evaluation; controlled substance screening.
