Overview

Under limited supervision, the Lead Mechanic diagnoses and troubles problems with all City equipment, machinery and vehicles and performs skilled work on a wide variety of heavy duty construction and maintenance equipment. Repairs and services a wide variety of medium and heavy gasoline and diesel driven machinery and hydraulic equipment. Operates trade related equipment and tools, inspects work done by subordinates, assigns mechanics to various repair and maintenance duties, and reports to the Fleet Management Manager. ADA REQUIREMENTS: Individual’s sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position. Responsibilities

Diagnoses defects, handles repairs and performs minor and major work on a wide variety of light and heavy automotive equipment and machinery within the City’s fleet. Operates various types of equipment, machinery, instruments and specialized tools necessary to perform mechanic duties. Inspects and troubleshoots problems and adjusts, replaces and/or makes necessary recommendations. Performs duties of Fleet Management Manager in his/her absence. Inspects work being done or completed by other subordinates and may peer review to certify that work has been completed to satisfaction. Prepares vehicle shop repair records. Distributes work orders. Orders parts. Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals to include City employees, vendors and suppliers. Supervises Automotive Mechanic I. Other duties as required. Qualifications

High school diploma graduate or GED. Vocational coursework in automotive and heavy equipment repair. Five years’ experience in automotive repair and maintenance. Two years’ experience with fleet management software. Excellence in many areas of vehicle repairs. Must possess a valid State of Florida driver’s license with satisfactory driving record throughout employment. CDL Class A or B required within 6 months of hire. Must possess working knowledge of various tools, machinery and equipment used to perform duties as required. Must possess basic knowledge of word processing, database and other computer skills. Work involves physical activity including, but not limited to, walking, lifting, climbing, crawling, carrying, bending, kneeling, stooping, reaching, sitting, standing, pushing and pulling sometimes in very confined spaces. Must be able to lift 60 pounds. Preference will be given to certain veterans, spouses of veterans, or unmarried widows/widowers of veteran.
