Position: CASA Volunteer Supervisor
Employment Type: Part Time, 20 Hours per Week
Reports To: CASA Director
Supervises: CASA volunteers
Position Summary Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a national program of trained, dedicated volunteers assigned by Family Court Judges to advocate for abused and neglected children. MHAWNY is home to CASA of Erie County, which recruits, trains and supports local CASA volunteers.
The CASA Volunteer Supervisor recruits, trains, and supports volunteer advocates serving children and youth involved in the child welfare system. This role coordinates volunteer assignments, provides ongoing supervision and case consultation, maintains accurate documentation, and collaborates with courts and child protective services to ensure effective advocacy. The Volunteer Supervisor strengthens volunteer engagement and program quality while supporting children and families impacted by abuse or neglect.
Essential Functions Volunteer Training
Assist with volunteer recruitment
Screen and interview prospective volunteers
Schedule, coordinate and attend all training classes, assisting as moderator and/or presenter
Assist with customization of the training manual
Case Management
Coordinate, document and channel all CASA volunteer requests until resolution
Match case with appropriate volunteer in consultation with the Director
Initiate orders for assignment of volunteer to case
Consult with CASA volunteers about problems or concerns
Attend Court when necessary
Enter data into computer database system
Volunteer Supervision
Maintain contact with each volunteer and receive a written monthly report from each volunteer
Provide assistance and consultation, as needed, and when requested
Schedule, coordinate and attend ongoing in-service programs
Keep necessary and appropriate volunteer records as directed by the Director
Consult with appropriate child protective services staff regarding client needs and volunteer assignments
Program Activities
Attend all available conferences and workshops for the development of programs for volunteers
Assist in orientation of staff
Attend staff meetings
Assist with public education about CASA program
Assist in volunteer appreciation events
Qualifications Candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in social service-related field or three years' experience in volunteer coordination and/or social services. The ability to communicate with, supervise and empower volunteers to be effective in their roles, as well as experience with volunteers preferred. Knowledge and understanding of issues and dynamics within families in crisis relating to child abuse and neglect— experience working with such families preferred
Travel Requirements Incumbents must possess a valid Driver License and reliable transportation with the ability to travel within New York State, as well as nationally, if required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time.
The employee is required to regularly reach with arms and hands; use hands to handle. Hands and fingers frequently perform repetitive motion including typing/keying.
Occasionally the employee will lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
This job requires close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to regularly talk and hear.
