Both full‑time and part‑time opportunities are available across day and night shifts (7 am–7 pm / 7 pm–7 am). By applying to this requisition you will be considered for current and future openings that match your skills and availability.

As an Environmental Services Technician, you will perform a variety of general and moderately complex cleaning tasks in assigned specialty areas to provide a safe and attractive environment for patients, guests, and staff. You will maintain environmental and infection control standards, follow Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) standards for procedure room turnover, and work with floor maintenance equipment, chemicals, hazardous materials, conference room setups, linen distribution, and tracking.

Qualifications Education:

High School diploma or equivalent education (examples include: GED, verification of homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post‑secondary education, etc.) – preferred

Experience:

One year of experience – preferred

Licenses & Certifications:

Required: DOTHAZMAT Certification (DOT) – Houston Methodist US Department Of Transportation Hazardous Materials Certification

Preferred: Driver License – State Licensure (DL)

Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on‑going assessments and performance evaluations

Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English governing patient or employee safety or security

Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co‑workers in a manner consistent with a customer‑service focus

Demonstrates the ability to access information both in the department and within the hospital system to support the department as appropriate

Multi‑task oriented, ability to complete work within designated time frames

Ability to accurately and efficiently perform duties with minimal supervision

Demonstrate efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment and chemicals

Respond promptly and positively to requests for assistance with directions and information from patients, staff, and visitors

Promptly respond to all assignments to create an environment conducive for healing and communicate any facility or patient‑related issues to management as appropriate

Perform efficient room cleaning processes ensuring timely patient admissions

Essential Functions – Quality/Safety

Follow department process for room cleaning and discharge inspections, aiming to meet or exceed HCAHPS cleanliness scores

Achieve discharge, daily room cleaning, and assigned area turn‑around times

Track, log, and notify appropriate management of safety and repair needs for equipment during discharge activity

Follow policies, procedures, and safety rules; correct minor safety hazards and observe infection control precautions and OSHA standards

Follow proper cleaning/maintenance procedures for all floor types utilizing equipment, as appropriate

Collect, transport, and dispose of solid/biohazard waste through proper procedures

Follow identified cleaning procedures, including utilization of specialty equipment in assigned areas (e.g., surgical, procedural or isolation areas)

Use appropriate transporting techniques for clean or soiled linen and assist with quality assurance by examining, identifying, and rejecting poor quality linen

Essential Functions – Finance

Appropriately use and store chemicals, paper goods, supplies, and equipment utilized during a shift; report, track, and assess wasteful practices

Manage time effectively and prioritize department daily tasks, minimizing incidental overtime

Essential Functions – Growth/Innovation

Assume responsibility for growth and development; participate in continuing education and in‑service programs

Actively participate in EVS shared governance, meetings or huddles by contributing ideas toward improving efficiency and effectiveness of department processes

Foster a positive and constructive teaching environment by engaging coworkers in learning opportunities aligned with business objectives
