Job Description
Orion Transit is a Dallas-based transportation provider offering
independent contractor opportunities
for experienced
Non-CDL WAV operators
supporting
DART GoLink
service. Contractors operate wheelchair-accessible vehicles (WAVs) and provide
on-demand, zone-based transportation
to a mix of ambulatory riders and passengers using wheelchairs.
This role is best suited for drivers who prefer a
fast-paced, app-driven environment
and are comfortable managing frequent trip assignments throughout the day.
Contract Opportunity Overview
Compensation:
Starting at
$21 per revenue hour
(Typical accepted service blocks range
40–55 hours per week , based on availability and demand)
Service Availability:
Contractors with
AM and PM availability
are strongly preferred
Service Blocks:
Opportunities typically fall within: 5:00 AM – 2:30 PM or 2:30 PM – 12:00 AM (including weekends)
Engagement Type:
Independent Contractor (1099)
Vehicle Access:
Company-provided WAV available via weekly lease
$60/week vehicle lease
for full-time contractors
Fuel, tolls, and maintenance covered by Orion Transit
Scope of Work Independent contractors may accept trip assignments within an assigned GoLink service zone and are responsible for:
Operating a wheelchair-accessible vehicle safely and professionally
Completing on-demand trips as dispatched through a tablet-based system
Providing courteous service to riders in a high-volume environment
Assisting with wheelchair securement when applicable
Performing pre- and post-use vehicle inspections
Maintaining vehicle cleanliness during use
Coordinating vehicle handoffs when applicable
While some trips involve wheelchair assistance, this role is
not traditional scheduled paratransit
and primarily consists of
on-demand zone service .
Ideal Contractor Profile
Prior experience in customer service, hospitality, or professional driving
Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving environment
Calm, patient, and safety-focused driving style
Able to manage frequent trip assignments without rushing
Professional communication and customer interaction skills
Reliable availability and strong time management

Minimum Eligibility Requirements
23 years of age or older
CTAA PASS Online Certification
NSC Defensive Driving Certification
Valid
Texas driver’s license
1+ year
of professional driving experience
Driving record with:
No more than
2 moving violations or at-fault accidents
in the last 3 years
No DUI/DWI convictions
No violent, substance-related, or sexual offense convictions
No felony convictions ever and no misdemeanors within the last 5 years
