Position Summary Paratransit Bus Operators at A-National Transit are responsible for providing safe, courteous, and reliable transportation services to passengers with disabilities and other eligible riders. Operators must demonstrate strong defensive driving skills, professionalism, and the ability to follow strict safety and service protocols in a fast-paced, 24/7 operating environment. This role requires flexibility, dependability, and a genuine commitment to passenger safety and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Safely transport passengers to and from scheduled destinations in accordance with assigned routes and manifests
Provide respectful assistance with boarding, securement, and de-boarding of passengers using mobility devices (wheelchairs, walkers, etc.)
Operate vehicles in compliance with all DOT, ADA, company, and traffic regulations
Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and accurately report any defects or safety concerns
Utilize two-way radio or electronic dispatch systems to communicate with dispatch/control center
Accurately collect fares (when applicable) and complete required trip documentation
Respond professionally to service disruptions, delays, accidents, or passenger concerns
Maintain a clean, safe, and professional vehicle environment at all times
Demonstrate defensive driving techniques to minimize risk and ensure passenger safety
Uphold a professional appearance, demeanor, and customer-focused attitude throughout each shift
Minimum Qualifications (Non-Negotiable)
Must be at least 21 years of age
Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license
Must have been an licensed driver for a minimum of three (3) consecutive years
No driver's license suspensions or serious violations within the past three (3) years
Must pass: Criminal background check
DOT physical
Drug and alcohol screening
Must be able to speak, read, and understand English proficiently
Must maintain a valid DOT medical card throughout employment
Must complete the New Hire training program (approximately 3 weeks)
Availability Requirements (Critical)
Must be fully available and flexible to work ALL shifts
Start times may occur anytime between 3:00 AM and 4:00 PM
A-National Transit operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
No fixed schedule is guaranteed, and schedules are assigned after successful completion of training
Candidates with limited availability or fixed scheduling needs should not apply
Preferred Qualifications
Prior professional driving experience (paratransit, shuttle, delivery or commercial driving)
Experience assisting passengers with disabilities or mobility needs
Strong attendance and reliability history
Comfort working independently with minimal supervision
Physical & Job Demands
Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle
Ability to assist passengers and handle mobility equipment as required
Ability to work in varying weather and traffic conditions
Ability to remain alert and focused throughout assigned shifts
Compensation
Training Pay: $16.00 per hour
Post-Training Pay: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour, based on experience and performance
