Therapeutic Riding Instructor (Path) – Helen Woodward Animal Center

Rancho Santa Fe, CA

$23.00 per hour

Part Time – about 24 hours per week (includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays;

Sun required )

Are you passionate about developing a rider's potential through the dedicated practice of learning to ride, control, and bond with horses? Do you have experience providing equine-assisted services for individuals with special needs? Is maintaining a PATH International credentialed environment for riders, horses, instructors, and volunteers important to you? If so, this is an opportunity you don't want to miss.

Helen Woodward Animal Center is one of only a handful of Southern California facilities certified by PATH International.

Summary Of Responsibilities The Therapeutic Riding Instructor is responsible for ensuring the safety and welfare of riders, horses, and volunteers at all times during therapy sessions. This role requires attentiveness, knowledge, and proactivity toward each client's personal disabilities and behavioral tendencies.

The instructor prepares, coaches, and evaluates lesson plans consistent with each client’s capabilities and progression. The instructor may coordinate care with families and physical and occupational therapists. The role also includes recruiting and training horses for the therapeutic program, leading volunteers, and fostering a respect-first environment.

Maintain accurate and confidential animal care records, ensuring accessibility and safe keeping.

Other Requirements

Current PATH International registered-level instructor certification (advanced or mastery preferred)

At least 2 years experience in a PATH International Premiere Accredited Therapeutic Riding or Member Center

3–5 years working with horses; advanced level of instructor‑riding preferred

Demonstrated experience handling personnel concerns with urgency and professionalism

Reliable team player committed to building positive relationships and adapting to multiple roles

Consistent record of attendance and punctuality

Results-oriented, passionate about meeting individual and team goals

Physical activity required: walking, standing, sitting, bending, lifting, assisting young children, and overhead reaching; up to 95% outdoors; exposure to allergens and dander

Driving duties are not required

Due to the nature of our clients and our work environment, a LiveScan fingerprint background check is required.
