Job Title: Charge Nurse
POSITION SUMMARY:
Assumes shift responsibility and accountability for the planning and provision of direct and indirect nursing care to the patient, family, care partner and appropriate others. Coordinates multi-disciplinary team members, directs and facilitates nursing staff in obtaining safe, optimal health care outcomes. Supports activities that meet the facility vision, mission and goals. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.
PROVISION OF SERVICES
Develops, implements, and evaluates an age-appropriate plan of care utilizing the nursing process, clinical skills, and patient education. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, families, visitors, and employees. The RN will assess risks to patient safety and implement the appropriate precautions. The RN will comply with appropriate and approved standards, as outlined by the organization and accrediting agencies. The RN will comply with safety and injury prevention standards to minimize risk to self, co‑workers, patients, and visitors. The concepts of the patient centered care delivery model will provide the foundation for all nursing care.
LEADERSHIP EXCELLENCE
Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating and providing feedback concerning staff performance. Demonstrates initiative, a collaborative approach, and sound judgment in day to day management at the unit level.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE
Manages the satisfaction of department outcomes to include patients, families, peers, employees, and physicians through effective communication and appropriate responsiveness to customer issues. Accountability for appropriate staffing for each shift, based on patient census, acuity, and available resources.

Qualifications EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED
Graduate of an accredited or NLN‑approved RN program
Must successfully pass any pre‑employment assessment(s).
BLS from the American Heart Association (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment
Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
De‑scalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintaining
Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility.
Pediatrics:
PALS within 12 months of hire and maintain certification throughout employment
Chemotherapy class within 12 months of hire; repeat class every 2 years and maintain throughout employment
