DriveWhip is a mobility provider in the Washington, DC area, with offices in multiple cities that leases/rents vehicles to Uber, Lyft and other on‑demand or rideshare drivers.

Position Summary We are seeking a skilled, reliable, and customer‑focused Tow Truck Driver to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for safely operating a tow truck to provide towing, recovery, and roadside assistance services to stranded motorists, businesses, and law enforcement agencies. This role requires excellent driving skills, mechanical aptitude, strong problem‑solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
Vehicle Operation & Safety
Operate various types of tow trucks (flatbed, wheel‑lift, heavy‑duty) safely and efficiently in diverse weather and traffic conditions.
Conduct pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the tow truck and equipment, ensuring all are in proper working order.
Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
Secure vehicles properly for transport to prevent damage.
Towing & Recovery
Respond promptly to dispatch calls for breakdowns, accidents, impounds, repossessions, and other towing needs.
Assess the vehicle’s condition and the towing situation to determine the safest and most effective recovery method.
Perform light mechanical repairs and basic roadside assistance (jump‑starts, tire changes, fuel delivery, lockouts).
Utilize chains, winches, and other specialized equipment for vehicle recovery and loading.
Customer Service
Interact with customers in a professional, courteous, and empathetic manner, especially during stressful situations.
Clearly explain services, charges, and procedures to customers.
Ensure customer vehicles are handled with care and respect.
Documentation & Communication
Complete accurate paperwork, including service tickets, invoices, accident reports, and daily logs.
Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and law enforcement.
Utilize navigation and dispatching software/systems efficiently.
Maintenance & Readiness
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the tow truck and equipment.
Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs promptly.
Ensure all necessary tools and supplies are stocked and ready for use.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record mandatory.
Minimum 1–2 years of professional tow truck driving experience preferred.
Entry‑level candidates with strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to train are encouraged to apply.
Ability to operate various types of tow trucks and towing equipment.
Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform minor roadside repairs.
Strong geographical knowledge of the Rockville area is a plus.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound judgments under pressure.
Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights and holidays, and be on‑call as needed.
Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Salary $20 – $28/hour; depending on experience.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit and use typical desktop computing workspace equipment – e.g., mouse, keyboard, monitor, phone – for extended periods of time.
Manual dexterity to operate a typical desktop computing workstation.
Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing, using virtual meeting and communication tools such as email, Google Meet, and Slack.
Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, if required.
