Food Service Specialist Substitute – IDEA A.W. Brown (Immediate Opening)

Role Mission The Food Service Specialist Substitute (FSS sub) ensures campus food service operations run smoothly when regular Food Service Specialists are absent or unable to attend shift. In this role you will provide coverage for food preparation, portioning, serving, student monitoring, and kitchen cleaning activities. Responsibilities include cutting and chopping produce, following recipes, adhering to kitchen procedures, monitoring student behavior and participation, and maintaining cleanliness through sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, and disposing of trash.
Accountabilities
Encourage students to participate in meal programs.
Ensure counts of student meals are accurate and performed as the meal is delivered.
Ensure reimbursable meals are offered and taken by students.
Convey accurate meal participation information to Cafeteria Managers.
Report counting and claiming issues observed as teachers or other helpers distribute meals.
Participate in weekly employee huddles and listen to topics presented by managers.
Call managers ahead of time if unable to meet scheduled shift and arrange for a substitute.
Promote respect and report any potential issues to cafeteria manager.
Report safety hazards to managers for repair or to Facility Manager.
Resolve employee conflicts promptly and request additional training as needed.
Keep meals ready per campus schedules for breakfast, lunch, snack, and supper.
Follow all recipes and report errors to Cafeteria Manager.
Encourage students to make quick meal choices and limit line wait times.
Clean tables between meal periods and sweep dining area as needed.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitization per state guidelines.
Record and provide daily notes to managers on food pulled from storage.
Complete Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point logs to document temperatures.
Serve as cashier at point of sale and identify reimbursable meals 100% of the time.
Rotate milk products and ensure quality and freshness daily.
Report low quality food and incorrect portions to manager.
Keep cafeteria and kitchen clean and presentable.
Report pest/rodent issues immediately to manager.
Follow established processes and discuss deviations with manager.
Compensation
Hourly rate: $15.00–$17.25 depending on years of experience.
Performance bonus opportunity based on team performance and goal attainment.

Qualifications
High School Diploma or Equivalent (preferred).
Experience in food service, restaurant, or hospitality (preferred).
Local Food Safety Permit (required).

Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
Knowledge of kitchen production procedures: set up, production, service, cleanup, and resetting.
Operate kitchen equipment, tools, and utensils.
Perform basic math skills.
Work well under pressure and in a team setting.
Lift, bend, pull, push, and twist as needed.
Provide customer service around children.
