Role Mission : The Food Service Specialist ensures that appropriate quantities of food are prepared, portioned, and served to IDEA students. Other responsibilities include cutting/chopping fruits & vegetables, following recipes, adhering to established kitchen processes, monitoring students during meal periods (e.g., monitoring for appropriate behavior, encouraging students to consume more fresh fruits & vegetables, no sharing of food, etc.) and kitchen cleaning duties (sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, disposing of trash).
What We Offer Compensation
Hourly rate: $15.00 – $17.25 based on experience
Performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment
Other Benefits
Paid Family Leave: Up to 8 weeks for birth or adoption of a child, based on tenure and caregiver designation
Tuition Reimbursement: Up to 50% of tuition, max $5,250 per year (subject to manager discretion and budget)

What You Bring – Competencies
Understand food recipes, safe handling and sanitation practices
Working knowledge of kitchen/food production procedures
Operate kitchen equipment, tools and utensils
Basic math skills
Work well under pressure in a team setting
Ability to lift, bend, pull, push, twist
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma preferred but not required
Experience: 1+ years of physical activity that requires standing for multiple hours a day
License/Certification: Food Handler’s Permit (City/County) preferred
Required: Moving cafeteria tables daily and disposing of garbage
What You’ll Do – Accountabilities
Possess an interest or passion for working with food
Basic knowledge or ability to quickly learn food production processes
Cooking, cleaning, restocking and resetting kitchen for next day
Meet physical demands of job (lifting, bending, walking, etc.)
Provide service to students
Understand and execute recipes
Handle medium to large equipment (ovens, slicer, steamer, etc.)
Use basic math skills for portioning food items in small trays
Take pride in food that is prepared and served to students
Take direction and feedback well; adapt quickly to changes
Work around academic calendar (Spring Break, Summer Break, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break)
Work 8 hours per day on school days; some overtime needed; may work Saturday
Self‑reflect and correct mistakes quickly
