At RLWS, the Laser Assistant helps with general operation of the lasers and other machinery, and operates overhead cranes to load steel and remove completed parts. Other duties include operating basic level machines such as cutoff saws, drill presses and semi-auto grinders, and moving parts to stocking locations. The Laser Assistant works in a manner in which quality of work and safety are top priorities. This is achieved by following safety procedures and work instructions and keeping the work area clean and organized. The Laser Assistant works in a fast-paced environment both independently and as part of a team.
Essential Job Functions
Operate the overhead crane to move material
Unload the laser table by hand and by using the overhead crane
Transport product to the proper stocking location
Operate the forklift to move product to staging area, and stocking location
Must be able to work in a small group setting and independently to complete required workload
Unload skeletons and scrap material from the laser table and bring to scrap location
Assist with cleaning the laser each night and maintain a clean and organized work area
Provide support and resources to the laser operator as needed
Operate power tools and basic hand tools
Must have ability to read and speak English
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Constant standing and walking on concrete floor
Constant handling and gripping of parts, drill press, overhead crane remote and pallets
Frequent use of near vision to inspect parts, read blueprints and other manufacturing documentation
Frequent use of spatial and form perception while placing parts in their correct locations
Frequent lifting and carrying of items under 10 pounds
Frequent pushing or pulling of carts and laser doors
Frequent reaching below shoulder for parts
Frequent 1- or 2-foot action and use of far vision and depth perception while driving forklift
Frequent bending/stooping, crouching and twisting while gathering parts or cleaning
Occasional lifting and carrying of items 11-50 pounds
Work in a fast-paced environment independently but with a team to meet deadline pressures
Work environment is inside a manufacturing facility that can have temperature extremes fluctuating seasonally, continuous manufacturing noise and dust, and contains sharp tools, thermal energy and hazardous machines including the laser itself in which a pacemaker cannot be near when the laser doors are open and the laser is in operation
Personal protective equipment required for this position includes safety glasses, composite or steel-toed shoes, gloves and hard hat (job specific)
