Role Overview The Dean of the School of Education will lead the SOE, guiding its mission, funding, and operations. The dean serves as the face of the SOE, communicating vision, securing public and private support, and partnering with university leadership and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
An earned doctorate in education or a related field and a distinguished scholarly record commensurate with a tenured appointment at the level of full professor.
Experience leading a large academic unit, including strategic and financial planning.
Long‑range strategic thinking and prioritization skills.
Excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching and mentoring, with a commitment to inclusive pedagogy and student success.
Experience or familiarity with higher‑education accreditation processes.
Proven ability to lead initiatives that promote access, opportunity, and academic success for all learners.
Preferred Qualifications
Appreciation for the varied backgrounds and complex needs of students.
Ability to balance institutional goals with the needs of students, staff, and faculty.
Empathy, transparency, and commitment to resolution in difficult conversations.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Tasks 1. Lead, develop, and communicate a mission and strategic vision for the School.
Develop and implement a clear, forward‑looking mission and strategic vision aligned with UNCG’s priorities.
Guide a collaborative planning process with faculty, staff, students, and partners.
Highlight the School’s commitment to teaching, scholarship, and service, and its leadership in key areas.
2. Lead, develop, motivate, and support faculty and staff.
Hire and retain a diverse, high‑quality faculty and staff.
Recruit and retain excellent teacher‑scholars and staff, fostering professional development.
Implement strategies to sustain faculty and staff engagement, recognition, and governance.
3. Generate and develop resources for the School.
Provide strategic financial management of the approximately 10.5 million annual budget.
Leverage revenue streams and fundraising to support sustainability.
Advocate SOE’s priorities to alumni, donors, and the university community.
4. Enhance curriculum, instruction, and research.
Work with faculty to strengthen existing programs and develop new innovative offerings.
Support faculty and students in research that advances learning, teaching, and leadership.
Promote interdisciplinary research and external funding opportunities.
5. Support student success and social mobility.
Ensure support structures for first‑generation and underrepresented students.
Embed inclusive practices and student feedback into the School’s culture.
Maintain focus on social mobility and the University’s ranking in this area.
