Overview The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of six health science schools at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 145 graduate students, and it has been named the number one School of Pharmacy in the U.S. by U.S. News and World Report.
Position Summary Reporting to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost, the Dean is the School’s Chief Executive and Academic Officer, responsible for academic and research enterprise, advancement, personnel, general administration, compliance, risk management, and budgeting.
Responsibilities
Serve as chief executive and academic administrative officer, stewarding fiscal and material resources.
Administer educational, research, and public service programs; collaborate on school strategy.
Recommend faculty appointments, promotions, and tenure to the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost.
Represent the School on university policy bodies and external constituencies.
Lead advancement and development activities, serving on the Board of the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Foundation.
Ensure compliance with university policies, NC Board of Pharmacy regulations, accrediting bodies, and oversee risk management.
Steward the satellite campus in Asheville, NC.
Lead strategic planning and policy development.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Earned terminal degree, record of exceptional leadership, and evidence of scholarly, professional, or creative achievement.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Extensive experience in pharmacy professional and graduate program administration and executive leadership.
Progressive academic leadership experience.
Strong track record of independently‑funded scholarship.
Demonstrated record of fostering excellence in research, teaching, and service.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, And Experience
Experience in a pharmacy school administrative role.
Strategic thinking and building institutional partnerships.
Administrative experience, high professional integrity, and strong team‑building skills.
Ability to articulate the School’s vision and mission to stakeholders.
