Overview DSHS Direct Support Professional / Attendant Counselor 2

State-Operated Living Alternatives (SOLA) within the Behavioral Health & Habilitation Administration (BHHA) is hiring Attendant Counselor 2 positions. This role involves coaching, teaching, mentoring, and supporting children/youth and adults with developmental disabilities. Opportunities include day, swing, night shifts, and part-time positions at SOLA sites.

You will provide support, personal care, supervision, and teaching to individuals in their homes. Support may include teaching daily living skills, assisting with personal care and household tasks, facilitating community integration and relationship building, as well as supporting medication administration and behavior management.

Your work helps individuals live full, empowered lives in their home. Activities may include cooking, personal care, household tasks, and participating in community activities such as going to movies, parks, libraries, and other outings, along with medication administration and health support as needed.

Evening and night shifts may include a shift differential, and some on-site opportunities may offer an additional Premium Pay of 5% (where applicable).

Responsibilities

Coach, teach, and mentor people with intellectual disabilities.

Assist and train clients with daily living skills.

Implement Individual Support Plan programs, plans, and services.

Transport and accompany clients to appointments or activities in the community.

Foster relationships with clients and support community integration.

Maintain a safe and clean home environment for residents.

Qualifications

A high school diploma/GED and one year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in mental health facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or residential settings.

Skills and Abilities

Outgoing and friendly.

Ability to provide accurate and clear written communications both electronically and verbally.

Punctual and responsible.

Ability to work with challenging individuals.

Effective communication with management, peers, residents, and the public as needed.

Team player and able to work independently.

Ability to read and follow policies and procedures.

Maintains great work habits.
