Maintenance Worker I - Facilities (20695896) Facility Maintenance The City of Mill Valley is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our team as a Maintenance Worker I in the Facilities Division. This position will be assigned to the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center where you will play a vital role in keeping our recreational spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for all visitors.

Essential Duties

Inspect Community Center/Aquatics & Fitness Center facilities regularly for safety issues, repair needs, and custodial concerns

Troubleshoot and complete basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks including fixture replacement, minor repairs, and surface preparation

Perform custodial work such as trash removal, cleaning, vacuuming, window washing, and moving or rearranging equipment or furniture

Perform minor maintenance on building systems including heating and air conditioning units, flooring, gutters, and downspouts

Assist with room and event setup as needed.

Respond to maintenance service requests from departments and address public concerns related to facility upkeep

Collaborate with outside contractors when required

Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and supply needs

Participate in on‑call duties during critical incidents or major events when assigned

Maintain pool and spa operations including safe chemical handling, equipment care, and minor part replacement

Perform minor repairs on kitchen equipment including refrigerators, freezers, stoves, and similar appliances

Perform other related duties as assigned

Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is highly responsible, safety conscious, and has a positive, service‑oriented attitude to join our team. The qualified individual will enjoy working with their hands, solving practical problems, and supporting the smooth operation of City facilities. Any background in building maintenance, basic construction, custodial work, or mechanical repair is helpful but not required.

Minimum Qualifications • Completion of the twelfth grade or equivalent and one (1) or more years of experience performing a variety of semi‑skilled building trades and facilities maintenance activities, including experience in the use and safe operation of a variety of hand and power tools. • Practical experience performing general facility or building maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical troubleshooting, or custodial support is valued. • A willingness to learn, follow safety procedures, and contribute to a collaborative team environment is essential.

Eligibility List At the conclusion of the panel interviews, all total scores are tallied and ranked to create an eligibility list, with candidates listed in order from highest to lowest scores. Only candidates who meet or exceed the passing score on the selection procedure are placed on the eligibility list. Candidates who score below the pass point are not included.
