Job Description Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 25,000 students in 2024-25. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 33% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary The Student Life Program Coordinator supports the mission of Student Life by assisting with the planning, coordination, promotion, and delivery of Student Life programs and activities. Under the direction of the Student Center Director, the Coordinator helps implement co-curricular experiences that encourage student involvement, foster belonging, and enhance campus engagement. This position provides logistical support for events, assists with communication and marketing tasks, interacts directly with students to ensure a welcoming environment, and helps maintain program materials and resources. Work is performed under established procedures and guidelines in alignment with DHRM’s Education Support Services classification.

Functional Responsibilities

Program & Event Support:

Assist with planning, coordinating, and supporting social, educational, cultural, and recreational events at the Norfolk Student Center.

Provide on-site event support including room setup, breakdown, supply distribution, tracking attendance, and general customer service.

Assist with reserving spaces, preparing materials, and ensuring events follow established guidelines.

Monitor event needs and communicate concerns or recommendations to professional staff.

Student Engagement & Customer Service:

Greet and engage students to promote an inclusive and supportive campus atmosphere.

Provide general information about Student Life programs, services, and campus resources.

Assist with responding to student inquiries and directing students to appropriate staff or departments.

Marketing & Promotion Support:

Assist in creating basic promotional materials such as flyers, digital slides, or simple social media content using approved templates.

Support marketing efforts by distributing materials and helping implement strategies to increase participation.

Ensure all marketing materials meet branding and accessibility standards.

Operational & Administrative Support:

Maintain an organized inventory of Student Life supplies, equipment, and materials.

Assist with maintaining participation logs, event evaluations, and routine program documentation.

Follow operational procedures for opening and closing program spaces and equipment.

Attend trainings, meetings, and skill-building sessions as assigned.

Support the maintenance of clean and functional program spaces.

Minimum Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with diverse student populations.

Demonstrated customer service experience.

Experience in student programming, event support, or student engagement work.

Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.).

Ability to follow instructions, apply guidelines, and complete tasks independently.

Ability to lift, move, and arrange event materials (tables, chairs, carts, supplies).

Strong organizational and time management skills.

Reliability, punctuality, and ability to work some evenings or occasional weekends.

Additional Considerations

Experience assisting with student events or customer service environments.

Familiarity with Canva, social media, or other basic digital promotion tools.

Knowledge of campus resources or student-centered program environments.
