Buyer/Planner
to balance the procurement strategy, material planning and inventory management activities for a global manufacturer and distributor of industrial products based on the northwest side of Houston. In this role, you will work closely with the sales, procurement, and logistics teams to maintain optimal inventory levels throughout the supply chain to ensure materials are available and delivered on time to meet operational needs. This role requires a strong understanding of end-to-end procurement workflows and demand/supply planning principles to ensure material availability and optimal stock levels in addition to strong attention to detail and accurate documentation, plus the ability to identify continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing and planning processes. Your daily activities will include issuing purchase orders, communicating with suppliers, assisting in price negotiations and managing lead times. Additionally, you will make informed purchasing and planning decisions using material management software (in this case, Microsoft D365) to support forecasting, purchasing, and inventory accuracy, assist in resolving delivery issues and proactively expedite orders when needed to prevent operational interruptions. This is an immediate, full-time, permanent placement position and requires you to work on-site. Routine responsibilities will require you to:
Maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure the timely delivery of materials and resolve any supply chain issues Negotiate pricing and lead times with suppliers to support cost savings and performance improvement Monitor inventory and demand signals, proactively addressing material shortages, delays, or excess stock situations Issue and manage the placement and follow-through of purchase orders to ensure timely delivery Manage the cost-effective delivery of materials Work with supplier transportation partners, logistics, internal teams, and other providers to move product in the most cost-effective manner Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation Collaborate with sales, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure optimal inventory levels that meet customer demand and production schedules Review material shortages and adjust planning parameters (ex: lead times, safety stock) to ensure product availability and uninterrupted flow of product Communicate planning changes across internal teams to align purchasing, productions, and fulfillment activities Required education and experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Logistics, or related field preferred 3+ years in a Buyer/Planner or similar role in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment, required Hands‑on, working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems; D365 strongly preferred Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite, primarily Word and Excel Strong understanding of end‑to‑end procurement workflows and demand/supply planning processes Proficiency in analyzing demand trends, supplier performance, and inventory data Strong negotiation skills to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes with suppliers Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams and suppliers Strong problem‑solving abilities and a proactive approach to managing supply chain disruptions.
