Rapid Wire LLC, a leading provider of horizontal directional drilling services in the Colorado area, is seeking a skilled and motivated Directional Drilling Operator and Locator to join our dynamic team. As a Horizontal Directional Drilling Operator and/or Locator, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and safe completion of drilling projects by operating drilling equipment and locating underground utilities.
We are willing to hire multiple people to fulfil these roles. If you have experience with either of these positions, please apply!
Locator’s responsibilities include:
Confirm bore path with install supervisor and drill operator (including walking the bore path).
Perform job site analysis (JSA) including completion of paperwork.
Ensure there are proper clearances to install the product per standards.
Record the depth of the tool head as required.
Ensure the drill head is in a good position at the exit pit to connect the product.
Oversee laborers and/or crew members’ work and monitor time usage.
Horizontal Directional Driller responsibilities include:
Site Preparation: Assessing the work site to identify potential obstacles, underground utilities, and other factors that may impact the drilling process. This involves conducting surveys and coordinating with project engineers and utility owners.
Equipment Setup and Operation: Setting up and operating horizontal directional drilling equipment, including drilling rigs, mud systems, and guidance systems. This involves following manufacturer's guidelines and safety procedures to ensure proper functioning of the equipment.
Drilling Execution: Steering the drill bit underground to create a horizontal bore path according to project specifications. This may involve navigating around obstacles, adjusting drilling parameters, and monitoring progress in real-time using guidance systems.
Pipe Installation: Installing pipes or conduits within the drilled bore path using techniques such as pullback or pipe jacking. This involves coordinating with onsite crew members to ensure smooth pipe insertion and alignment.
Quality Control: Inspecting the drilled bore path and installed pipes for quality assurance, ensuring that they meet project requirements and industry standards. This may involve conducting visual inspections, performing measurements, and documenting any deviations or issues encountered.
Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety regulations and best practices to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of crew members, bystanders, and the environment. This includes implementing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving any technical or operational challenges that may arise during the drilling process, such as equipment malfunctions, ground conditions, or unexpected obstacles.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining accurate records of drilling activities, including bore profiles, drilling parameters, and as-built drawings. This information is crucial for project documentation, reporting, and future reference.
Basic Qualifications:
3 years of Horizontal Directional Drill experience;
Valid driver’s license;
Must obtain a CDL class "A" driver’s license within 30 days of employment;
Clean driving record.
Willing to work outdoors in all types of weather and work overtime as required.
Strong commitment to safety and the ability to follow established safety protocols.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with different size Vermeer or Ditch Witch units and various brands of locating equipment
Working experience of underground construction and Fiber builds
City, County and State clearance code knowledge and related
Ability to read and understand maps, drawings and diagrams for project build process
