Materials Developer – Apparel
Our client is seeking a technically grounded and collaborative Materials Developer who thrives at the intersection of textile innovation and product execution. This individual brings deep curiosity for materials, a hands‑on development mindset, and the ability to translate complex textile concepts into commercially viable apparel solutions. Success in this role comes from strong cross‑functional partnership, technical rigor, and an ability to move ideas from concept through production.
This role is a hybrid model in Beaverton, Oregon.
Materials Developer – Apparel Responsibilities
Drive seasonal textile and material development from early concept through commercialization, partnering closely with vendors and manufacturing teams.
Research and evaluate textile innovations, trends, and technologies to inform material solutions aligned with performance, lifestyle, and sustainability goals.
Apply technical materials expertise to assess how yarns, constructions, finishes, and prints perform in finished garments.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with product, innovation, technical development, sourcing, and manufacturing partners to align materials with product intent.
Manage testing, documentation, and tracking of material developments while balancing multiple timelines and priorities.
Materials Developer – Apparel Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Textile Science, Apparel, or a closely related field.
Hands‑on background in textile or material development (this is a development‑focused role, not a design position).
Strong technical knowledge of textiles, including yarns, knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing techniques.
Proven experience working on cross‑functional teams within a product creation or apparel development environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong communication, organization, and follow‑through skills.
