VITA Tax Preparation Volunteers needed in Brooklyn
The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) was recently certified by the IRS to operate its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program at our Benefits Access Office in Brooklyn, located near the C line, at 2010 Fulton Street. The office will be open for this purpose from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturdays.
Responsibilities
Help New Yorkers file their taxes during tax season (late January 2026 to late April 2026)
Use tax preparation software to prepare accurate returns
Connect clients to additional financial health resources
Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard client information
Qualifications
Effective communication and customer service skills
Basic computer literacy
Willingness to complete free IRS training before tax season
Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, or other bilingual volunteers are especially needed
Training No previous tax experience is needed. Volunteers will receive hands‑on training and ongoing support to prepare simple tax returns and will be required to pass IRS volunteer certification exams to become IRS Certified VITA/TCE Volunteer Preparers.
Time Commitment
Preferably at least 8 hours per week (January–April 2026)
Flexible scheduling: the center is open 7 days a week, including evenings and weekends
Extra shifts are welcome if your schedule allows
