What You'll Be Doing Wake County Public Health recognizes the need to be ready and proactive in our service to Wake County. We monitor, plan, train, and support the abilities of the county, and the region to protect the public health in disaster situations such as disease epidemics, chemical and radiological releases, severe weather and natural disasters. Disaster Preparedness Consultant

to join #TeamWake! The Disaster Preparedness Consultant serves as a subject matter expert in public health preparedness and emergency response program activities. This role provides strategic and operational guidance to prevent, protect from, mitigate, respond to, and recover from potential and actual public health threats resulting in greater health security for Wake County residents.

Job responsibilities include:

Providing technical guidance and assistance to develop, improve, and expand disaster preparedness

Creating, executing, and evaluating training and exercise programs including the use of Tabletop, Functional, Full Scale exercises to test and improve new and existing plans and procedures

Conducting research, including literature review and offsite visits to ensure that emergency preparedness best practices are undertaken

Serving on internal and external committees/workgroups to further develop preparedness in the county in accordance with best practices

Coordinating management of emergency response equipment and supplies

*This position participates in Wake County emergency preparedness and response activities and is expected to respond in the event of an emergency. This position will experience temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours during an emergency, or in preparation for an emergency.*

NOTE: Upon acceptance of employment you acknowledge that (i) if you work in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division, influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law, (ii) actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected. Employee may be required to fill a temporary assignment in a role different from standard duties, work hours and/or work location in preparation for, during and after the emergency. Employee may also be required to participate in relevant exercises and regular preparedness training.

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

Bachelor's degree

Three years of job-related experience

Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record

Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

One (1) year of experience effectively providing presentations, meeting facilitation and trainings

Two (2) years of experience writing or editing written operational plans

Two (2) years of experience in Public Health or Public Health Education

IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800, IC 300 (FEMA)

IS-120 (FEMA)

IS-130

IS-235

Certified Master Exercise Practitioner

Certified Basic, Intermediate, Advanced or Master Trainer

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

Knowledge of Emergency or Disaster Planning, Training and Response

Expertise in classroom and virtual instruction

Detail oriented

Ability to work independently

Expertise in facilitating meetings with both internal and external stakeholders

Knowledge of Emergency/Disaster Response Education, including the completion of ISC 100, 200, and 700

Hiring Range: 61,569 - 83,123

Market Range: 61,569.00 - 104,676.00
