BASIC OBJECTIVES This is a professional position for a certified art teacher who is responsible for the instruction of elementary and secondary students through the teaching of visual arts content, art production skills, and the historical and cultural significance and understanding of visual arts as an art form.
JOB TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares lesson objectives and outline of study following district curriculum guidelines.
Lectures, demonstrates, selects appropriate materials and uses visuals and audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
Maintains portfolio of student artwork and prepares and administers assessments to measure students’ progress, records results, issues reports to inform parents of progress and assigns final grades.
Assigns lessons and assesses students’ progress.
Maintains attendance and grade records as required by school.
Participates in school, community, district, state and national exhibitions and contests.
Participates in faculty and professional meetings and in-service classes.
Performs related work as required or as assigned by the supervising administrator or his/her designee.
Provides opportunity for students to visit museum/gallery artist studios as a part of their learning experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is medium work which requires the following physical activities: climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, feeling, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity. The worker is exposed to hazards, atmospheric conditions and oils. The work is performed indoors and outdoors.
