Education and Employee Health Nurse Position Title: Education and Employee Health Nurse – (25143035)

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity as an Education and Employee Health Nurse at Montana State Hospital. This dual‑function clinical position splits time evenly between education and employee health functions, providing direct services and serving as a capable backup during absences or increased demand. The role is a peer‑level professional supporting cross‑coverage and operational continuity across both domains.

This position supports MSH’s Triple S (Safe, Seen, and Supported) workplace culture, clinical excellence, professional development, and staff well‑being within a complex inpatient psychiatric environment. The Education and Employee Health Nurse must possess strong clinical judgment, instructional ability, operational discipline, and a commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration across multiple departments within MSH.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of policies, protocols, and procedures within nursing.

Strong presentation and writing skills, including command of the English language and grammar.

Knowledge of adult learning theories, best practices, and training transfer techniques.

Skilled in using basic nursing instruments and equipment.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and remain nonconfrontational while focusing on composure with differing viewpoints.

Ability to exercise sound judgment, manage deadlines, and oversee multiple projects.

Ability to build trust and credibility in working relationships.

Proficiency with software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Well‑organized with strong attention to detail.

Preferred

Prior experience in Employee Health, Nursing Education, Staff Development, or similar roles.

Minimum Qualifications

Registered Nurse; BSN preferred.

Minimum of three years clinical nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health or psychiatric settings.

Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Must obtain and maintain an AHA BLS Instructor and CPI instructor within 12 months of hire. Failure to earn the certification may result in termination.
