Overview A senior Correctional Officer with the Missouri Department of Corrections leads a team of officers, develops expectations, monitors performance, and ensures compliance with established rules, regulations, and procedures. The role includes supervising special security posts, conducting on‑the‑job training, performing inspections, and handling disciplinary matters.

Responsibilities

Supervise Correctional Officers, develop expectations, monitor performance, and enforce disciplinary measures.

Assist the Corrections Training Officer in conducting orientation and in‑service training programs.

Patrol living quarters, grounds, and buildings to observe offender behaviors and the effectiveness of officers.

Prepare and submit reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, mechanical deficiencies, and security breaches.

Inspect buildings and equipment for security, safety, and sanitary conditions.

Supervise movement of offenders inside and outside the facility; conduct periodic counts and searches for contraband.

Arbitrate disputes, settle grievances, enforce disciplinary measures, and refer difficult issues to an administrative supervisor.

Perform work in accordance with established rules and regulations; comply with general administrative direction.

Maintain physical fitness and submit to a physician’s physical examination to meet departmental employment standards.

Possess a valid vehicle operator’s license when required by assignment.

Qualifications

Six or more months of experience as a Correctional Officer or Probation and Parole Assistant with the Missouri Department of Corrections; or

One or more years of military service, or experience in the custody of adult criminal offenders in a city, county, state, or federal facility.

Additional Compensation

$2.00 per hour shift differential for shifts between 12:00 pm and 5:00 am at a 24/7 congregate care facility.

$1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend for regular posts within a restricted housing/segregation unit.

Guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years.
