Correctional Officer Position Overview This is a Correctional Officer position that is assigned to Mobile Custody Team and requires extensive travel statewide. The position will have an official domicile at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, MO, but will be required to travel to DAI facilities across Missouri to assist with staffing needs as approved by the respective Deputy Division Director.

Annual salary: $45,555.60, based on a normal 40‑hour workweek. The position is eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential, and overtime pay in accordance with departmental policy D2-8.4 Compensatory Time and Office of Administration’s Division of Personnel Differential Pay Guidelines.

Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 12pm (noon) to 12am (midnight). The Mobile Custody Team Officer will be expected to report to the South Central Correctional Center by noon each Monday and return around midnight on Friday.

While on assignment, Mobile Custody Team Officers will be provided a state vehicle for transportation, lodging, and will be reimbursed for meals not provided by the institution or hotel. Officers will be required to carpool in the state vehicle and may be required to reside with a roommate while traveling.

Candidates will be expected to maintain security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders. The position also supervises movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility, conducts periodic counts, searches occupants and their living quarters for contraband, escorts/transport offenders to predetermined locations. Officers will supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities, recreational/religious activities, visits, and search visitors/occupants/buildings/grounds for contraband.

Additional duties include inspections for health and safety hazards; preparing and submitting reports on offender violations, unusual behaviors, mechanical deficiencies, or security breaches. Officers will discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders, refer serious matters to proper staff, and promote rehabilitation by modifying offenders’ social attitudes and discouraging undesirable behaviors.

Other related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older.

Special Requirements

Ability to pass a background investigation administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Ability to complete Defensive Tactics and Standard First Aid/CPR training during Basic Training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

By Assignment, a Position May Require

Ability to complete and maintain firearms certification training administered by the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

Additional Compensation Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:

A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility.

A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.

A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrictive housing/segregation unit at any facility.

The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
