Summary The SMW team leader role is vital for the continued success of SMW. Each team leader is expected to be a working lead who also serves as the primary resource and contact for his/her area of expertise. The roles and responsibilities in this job description are intended to be guidelines and list essential skills required for team leader success.
Essential Skills & Responsibilities
Serve as the first point of problem solving with the confidence to know the appropriate level of involvement from others to reach successful resolution—'Solve at the appropriate level'.
Be a champion of creative solutions from all persons utilizing formal and informal problem solving strategies.
Avoid the 'I can't' attitude and trap—be a champion and example for turning cannot into how we can overcome and succeed.
Have the ability to look ahead and assess upcoming risks and gaps to safe and effective production.
Understand, monitor, and participate in maintaining, gathering, and presenting productivity and utilization metrics.
Understand, monitor, and maintain daily production schedules (DPS).
Be able to communicate clear and consistent information to all levels of the organization—small group to large audience; shop floor to senior management including: work assignments, productivity presentations, Tier I, II, III meetings, Kaizen/Improvement reports, formal problem solving meetings.
Possess skill and knowledge to provide meaningful technical guidance to operators.
Perform/Lead risk assessments before a team performs any non-standard work or tasks using SMW's 'First Things First' process.
Actively promote and identify opportunities that improve departmental efficiency and cost.
Be a champion, participant, and daily observer in Behavior Based Safety and Behavior Based Quality programs.
Knowledge, Skills & Education
Minimum one year of permanent employment with MPSA-SMW.
Proven record of stable and sustainable performance.
Familiar with product flow and able to review & interpret component and assembly blueprints/drawings as well as bill of material.
Employees with open disciplinary actions are considered ineligible.
Basic computer skills: SAP, Work orders, Router management, BOM/Inventory information, MS Office, Outlook, Power Point, Word, Excel, Area Specific Software, FANUC Controls, PLC Controls/Robot.
Successful candidates will be required to participate in advanced training such as 8 Step Problem Solving, BBS/BBQ, Conflict Resolution, Lean/6S, Leadership, Human Performance, Other courses as necessary.
