10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
12:00 PM - 8:00 PM
7:00 PM - 7:00 AM
(Shifts may be adjusted based on ED operational needs)
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month:
Based on full-time equivalent (3.0 FTE total coverage); scheduling determined by facility leadership
License:
Active, full, unrestricted MD or DO license from any U.S. State, Territory, or D.C.
Certifications:
Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM)
BLS (American Heart Association)
ACLS (American Heart Association)
DEA Registration
NPI
Experience Needed:
New graduates are accepted or minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Department clinical experience preferred
Special Skills Needed:
Ability to independently manage high‑acuity emergency cases
Proficiency in emergency procedures including airway management, trauma care, cardiac resuscitation, and procedural sedation
Strong documentation skills using electronic health records
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English
Experience working in hospital‑based Emergency Departments
Credentialing / Onboarding Time:
6 weeks to 8 weeks
Responsibilities:
Provide on‑site Emergency Department physician services to eligible Veterans
Perform medical screening exams, diagnosis, treatment, stabilization, and disposition of ED patients
Manage medical, surgical, psychiatric, and traumatic emergencies
Perform emergency procedures within granted privileges
Document all patient encounters accurately in the VA electronic health record
Participate in hand‑offs, admissions, transfers, and consultations
Follow VA policies, Joint Commission standards, and Emergency Medicine professional guidelines
Participate in quality assurance, peer review, and mandatory training activities
Ensure continuity of care and patient safety at all times
Miscellaneous:
This is a non‑personal services position (not a federal employee role)
Providers must be available for nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
