Position Summary The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program Assistant is an employee of Tillamook County Health and Human Services Department (HHS); includes the Community health Center which provides medical, behavioral, dental, services and integrated Tillamook County Public Health and Environmental Health programs and services. This classification promotes community health and wellness by assisting individuals and families in receiving WIC services. Employees assigned to this classification will perform a variety of paraprofessional public health duties focusing on services to low‑income families with children. This includes identifying client needs through screening, assessment, and interviews, determining program eligibility, and developing personalized nutrition care plans. Employees provide nutritional counseling, education, and referrals to additional community resources while managing the WIC vouchering system. This position also ensures smooth clinic operations and supports direct service and outreach efforts.
Required Qualifications (Minimum) qualifications for this role
Education High school diploma or equivalent Other: additional coursework in human growth and development, nutritional health occupations or health education.
Experience One (1) year of experience, preferable in health or nutrition education, OR any satisfactory combination of experience and training.
Certifications or Licenses At time of appointment, must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Other Qualifications Must pass a pre‑employment criminal history background investigation.
Duties
Assist in the identification of client needs through screening, assessment, interviewing and observation.
Develop and implement personalized nutrition care plans and assure smooth clinic flow in individual clinics.
Plan and provide targeted education for clients based on their specific nutritional and health needs.
Interview potential WIC program participants to obtain financial, medical and nutritional history and establish program eligibility.
Provide immediate nutritional counseling to address client concerns, guide informed health decisions and arrange for specialized dietician services as necessary.
Administer vouchering system.
Advise and encourage the use of other available community services to support overall well‑being.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Additional Information
Supervision is not a function assigned to this role. Works under general supervision with recurring tasks performed independently. The supervisor provides professional advice on non‑routine matters, and periodic reviews are conducted to ensure adherence to expected results.
The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, laptop bag, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Moderate risks/discomforts: require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals. Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
