The Medical Technologist is responsible to the Laboratory Manager or to the Laboratory Medical Director. A Medical technologist will perform clinical laboratory procedures in microbiology, chemistry, hematology, serology, blood bank, parasitology, urinalysis, referred procedures, and phlebotomy. They will share in performance of clinical lab functions associated with the lab. Has the authority to order questionable results rechecked, to judge adequacy of submitted specimens and to request another if original is unsatisfactory. May be required to perform special tasks including individual projects, section head responsibilities, serving on hospital committees or task forces. Will share the laboratory call rotation and staffing needs as necessary.

Responsibilities ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Evidence of continuing education appropriate for the skill level and specific areas of practice.

Demonstrates the ability to perform in technical, clerical, and interpersonal aspects of clinical lab services.

Must be able to lift 50 lbs maximum, frequently lifts and/or carries objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Able to perform laboratory test processing and understand differences in reference ranges of results from specimens received from pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.

Must be able to identify, match, and distinguish colors.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited medical laboratory technician program or an equivalent work experience/education background which will lead to certification.

MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification.

Ability to meet lifting classification.

Well groomed and demonstrates appropriate conduct.

Willingness to learn and use quality tools and promote patient satisfaction principles.

Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Hours: 40 Hours USD $34.68/Hr. USD $60.46/Hr. 01-4010 Laboratory Flex Schedule
