Job Summary Working with the service manager, responsible for the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Service department. Oversees the work of the mechanics. Able to make proper diagnosis of all components and recommended repairs.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Diagnostic ability of all components of the truck.
Help in writing up repair orders and communicating with drivers and owners to determine problems and solutions.
Schedule and assign jobs and work areas to employees according to their skills and knowledge.
Inspect and advise mechanics on work as it progresses.
Track each customer job and advise the customer on completion time, cost of repairs, additional repairs, etc.
Road test and dyno test trucks to determine if repairs are complete.
Maintain buildings, grounds, and work areas clean and neatly arranged.
Keep company tools and equipment properly maintained.
Assist in determining parts to be replaced and follow through with the Parts Department.
Help complete repair orders, ensuring correct billing and coding.
Be familiar with warranties of all parts of the truck and determine if a repair is warrantable.
Arrive at least thirty minutes prior to scheduled mechanic shifts.
Work additional hours as required.
Help ensure safe working conditions for all employees.
Educational Requirements Minimum high school diploma required.
Work Experience Minimum four years as a mechanic and at least two years as a shop foreman or lead mechanic.
Special Skills Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with customers, vendors, and co‑workers. Must also possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Physical Demands Essential ability to climb around, on and under trucks to inspect and diagnose problems. Must be able to lift 50 pounds to the waist and 25 pounds to the shoulder. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
