Hellman Electric LLC is seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager to join our team. Hellman Electric is one of the metropolitan region's largest electrical construction contractors. The firm includes three divisions: Heavy Construction, Interiors and Datacom. We are a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local Union 3, and are recognized as a leader in the electrical construction industry.
Job Summary The Assistant Project Manager shall have nearly the same duties and responsibilities as a Project Manager as outlined in the job description entitled Project Manager (See Below) with the following qualifying factors. Due to the fact that an Assistant Project Manager has less tenure and experience he or she will work under close supervision of the PM on all project requirements.
An Assistant Project Manager will be eligible for promotion to Project Manager with a minimum of 5 years industry experience in project management. This experience may be gained at Hellman Electric or from other companies, which would be subject to review and approval by management on a case by case basis.
The Assistant Project Manager supports the Project Managers in the total management of the projects assigned by Hellman Electric. The PM responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning, budgeting, scheduling, customer interaction and internal HEC reporting and coordination.
Essential Project Management Responsibilities
Ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
Developing project scopes and objectives.
Ensure resource availability and allocation.
Develop a detailed project plan to track progress.
Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule and costs.
Measure project performance using appropriate systems, tools and techniques.
Report and escape to management as needed.
Manage the relationship with the client.
Perform risk management to minimize project risks.
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
Manage project submittal, RFI, and change order process.
Negotiate change orders with the client.
Manage the flow of material to the jobsite, ensuring timely receipt for efficient project construction.
Manage vendors and sub contractors.
Provide concise project reporting and accountability.
Provide quarterly job projections utilizing cost analysis techniques.
Ensure timely monthly billing including negotiation of percent complete utilizing progress measuring techniques.
Management and oversight of M/W/DBE requirements.
Assist in the creation of Job Hazard Analyses and other Safety documentation.
Development of shop drawings with the assistance of the Engineering/CAD team.
Discuss and work to resolve all daily issues with the Foreman as they arise, but also elevate such issues to the Project Supervisor and Superintendent as appropriate.
Maintain professional, cooperative relationships with subcontractors, vendors, manufacturers, engineers, architects, and clients.
Qualifications
BS in Engineering (Electrical) or an appropriate technical discipline or commensurate industry experience, is preferred.
Proficient computer skills in at least Word, Excel.
Honesty, integrity and a strong desire to succeed.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills.
Ability to deal tactfully in human issues with colleagues.
Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written format – in particular through emails and formal letters.
