This role is essential to keeping our community safe and functioning by ensuring proper drainage, repairing systems, and responding to weather events. About the Role: Ready to Make a Difference? The
Stormwater Crew Member
performs general maintenance and construction work on the City’s stormwater systems. This position requires strong teamwork skills, independent judgment in the field, and the ability to follow technical and safety procedures.
This job is Non‑Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Key Responsibilities
Operating job‑specific equipment such as single‑axle and tandem dump trucks.
Driving trucks and operating equipment during the snow and ice removal program.
Installing and repairing stormwater systems (both open and closed).
Working in confined spaces, ditches, creeks, and in and around traffic and heavy equipment.
Applying technical and safety training to complete assignments effectively.
Assisting in emergency response and working flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, or holidays as needed.
Physical Requirements
Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and walking on uneven surfaces.
Shoveling and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Must maintain a reliable means of contact (home or cell phone).

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma/GED with less than 1 year of experience in general construction or installing or maintaining underground utilities.
No High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of directly experience in general construction or installing or maintaining underground utilities.
Valid Driver’s License
North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License (or the ability to obtain within 120 days of hire date. Specific sections may require a pesticide license or tanker endorsement).
