is now accepting registrations for the upcoming Court Assistant Exam through February 10, 2026. The exam will be held throughout New York State from Wednesday, April 8, 2026 to Wednesday, April 29, 2026. As a Court Assistant , you’ll be at the heart of the justice system by supporting judges, attorneys, and the public while helping ensure that courts run fairly, efficiently, and with integrity while representing the communities they serve. Support court operations and judicial staff. Interact with the public in a professional, service-oriented way. Manage case information, records, and courtroom logistics. Contribute to a collaborative, high-impact team environment. Compensation and Benefits

Competitive compensation starting at $58,100 per year. Regular work schedule (no nights or weekends). 13 paid holidays. 13 paid sick leave days. 20 paid vacation days in the first year. 27 paid vacation days by the seventh year. Eligibility

High school diploma or GED plus two (2) years of clerical experience* by the examination date. OR Four (4) years of clerical experience* in place of a HS diploma/GED. Thirty (30) college level credits may be substituted for each year of work experience. *Clerical experience includes filing materials; sorting mail; unpacking supplies; operating office machinery; recording and or copying written numerical material; communicating directions and information orally to staff; processing documents; receiving/unpacking goods, supplies and/or materials; reviewing and correcting typed materials to ensure correct spelling punctuation and proper format; operating office machinery, reviewing documents and forms in accordance with written rules and policies; checking documents and forms to determine whether required information is present and accurate; filing, retrieving, and sorting paper and folders according to an established alphabetical, chronological, numerical or functional filing system; responding to telephone or written questions; taking messages; typing; answering the phone, etc. Application Instructions

To be considered, you must register for and take the Court Assistant Exam (#45-850). To be appointed as a Court Assistant in New York City and in the following counties: Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester, Nassau, or Suffolk, candidates must be United States citizens and residents of New York State.
