Production Assistant – Photo & Video Shoots (Chicago)
AURA Creative is hiring a
Production Assistant
to support on‑set photo and video productions for lifestyle, beauty, e‑commerce, and brand clients. This is a hands‑on role for someone who understands production environments and can move quickly, stay organized, and support the creative team on shoot days.
Prior experience is required.
Responsibilities
Assist with on‑set photo and video production
Must be able to lift 50+ pounds
Set up and break down lighting, grip, and basic production gear
Lift, move, and transport heavy equipment (lighting stands, sandbags, gear cases, props)
Support photographers and videographers during shoots
Help maintain a clean, organized, and efficient set
Assist with location prep, styling setup, and general production needs
Problem‑solve quickly and stay calm in fast‑paced environments
Requirements
Photo, video, and lighting experience is REQUIRED
Ability to
lift heavy objects
and be on your feet for long shoot days
Reliable transportation
(you will need to get yourself to shoots and locations)
Must be located
within 1 hour of downtown Chicago
Strong understanding of basic lighting setups and production flow
Punctual, dependable, and detail‑oriented
Comfortable taking direction and anticipating needs on set with an “everything is figure‑out‑able” attitude
Positive attitude and team‑first mindset
Nice to Have
Grip or lighting assistant background
Interest in growing within production or creative roles
Photo or video editing/digitech experience
Details
Freelance / project‑based (with potential for recurring work)
Shoots primarily based in Chicago and surrounding suburbs
Compensation based on experience
