Red Caboose Child Care
The Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day‑to‑day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical development in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide teacher assistants, and resolve parental concerns.
Duties
Provides a developmentally appropriate classroom that reflects the child’s learning and growth, while reaching the levels of standards of the Red Caboose, Licensing, and Accreditation
On an ongoing basis, plan, evaluate, and improve the physical environment in the classroom to create opportunities to meet the changing needs of the developing child
Demonstrate cultural competency, a firm understanding of inclusiveness, and respect for the child and the family’s background by incorporating the cultural, linguistic, and familial values and beliefs into the childcare program and lesson plans
Assist families in the transition and development of their child to prepare them to transition to the next classroom
Completes and reports any symptoms of child abuse to supervisor and/or child abuse hotline – Mandated Reporter
Conducts supervision on a daily and weekly basis of children
Conducts supervision of Assistant Teacher on a daily and weekly basis
Reports all staffing and classroom concerns to Program Director and/or Executive Director in a timely manner

Written Documentation
Maintain accurate, complete and timely client and agency records – For example: Completing daily meal, attendance, health, and incident reports in a timely manner and filling in appropriate files
Maintains up to date emergency forms, curriculum plans, individual child development profiles and other records as needed
Collaboration
Participate in regularly scheduled team meetings
Open conversation regularly with parents, and other staff, regarding the child’s status and progress
Foster and maintain positive, ongoing and open communication with parents/Caregivers
Provide a classroom experience that encourages parent participation
Ensuring regular newsletters are sent to parents as part of the communication process in the classroom
Curriculum
Assess individual and group needs, attending to special needs, specific interests, strengths and concerns
Learn by play curriculum, allowing children to use their imagination and grow their skills from play and interaction
Develop Lesson Plans weekly, that are developmentally appropriate, intellectually challenging, and help each individual child grow
Prepare classroom materials to coincide with weekly and daily goals and lesson plans
Miscellaneous
Attend meetings and trainings as well as meet individual Continuing Education Hours
Other duties as established, within Red Caboose, Licensing and Accreditation Standards
Requirements
Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment
A strong understanding of child development
Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification
Must clear full background check and must pass health screening
Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl
Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Nice To Haves
Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 Credits in ECE
Minimum of 2 years of professional child care experience
