Responsibilities
Perform duties of lifeguard: safety, supervision, discipline of persons using deep or shallow water pool facilities. Work under direct supervision of Pool Manager. Perform duties of pool manager in absence: safety, supervision of facility, staff, participants, supplies, equipment. Supervise staff and administer pool operations. Provide instructional and special event programs and customer service. Manage memberships and revenue collection. Pass annual lifeguard water skills review test. Attend training. Use posted staff swimwear. Qualifications
Must be 18 years of age or older. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training/First Aid and CPR for Professional Rescuer/AED certifications (unexpired). Must successfully pass annual lifeguard water skills review test with minimum 80% proficiency. Current Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred. Current Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred. Must meet required certifications and maintain as part of employment. Must be able to work with minimum supervision. Knowledge
Good Customer Service Principles and techniques of water safety, lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid; and pool maintenance. General administrative and management principles and the ability to apply these principles to daily swimming pool activities. Principles and practices of organization, administration, supervision, and personnel management. Principles of effective scanning. Principle of zone coverage. Principles and practices of organization, administration, supervision, and personnel management. Skills
Coordinate multiple assignments. Organize and prioritize tasks. Analyze situations carefully and adopt effective courses of action. Work with minimum supervision. Maintain confidentiality of records, actions and events. Speak effectively on the phone and in person. Ability
Implement any American Red Cross Skill / Rescue to the highest standard. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, employees, instructors, and the general public. Provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities. Write legibly. Use English accurately. Complete appropriate paperwork accurately. Make sound judgments based on logical analysis and training. Follow all safety rules and regulations of the department to which assigned. Identify and respond to issues, concerns, and needs. Other Requirements
Must attend Pool Manager/Head Guard training, gate assistant training, preseason training, and on-site pool training. Must wear assigned Department of Recreation staff uniforms. This position may require working a flexible schedule, which may include evenings, weekends and holidays. Environmental Conditions
While performing duties the employee is subjected to outdoor weather conditions with little to no temperature control; is routinely exposed to the sun, may be exposed to extreme heat, cold, wind and rain. Works on uneven and/or slippery surfaces and is periodically exposed to hazardous conditions/situations and substances. Physical Conditions
Must maintain physical conditions necessary for swimming, stand, walk and walk for prolonged periods, lift up to 50 lbs and repair minor fence cuts. Regularly required to stand, walk, sit for long periods, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, differentiate colors and shades of color. Seniority level
