The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a

Laborist

to join our thriving Manhattan Faculty Group Practice (FGP). Our practice serves a diverse population, caring for both low and high‑risk pregnancies with approximately 2,500 deliveries per year at our Tisch Hospital campus.

As a Laborist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional inpatient care for patients requiring obstetric admission. We are seeking an individual who can effectively communicate, is passionate about patient safety and quality, and who enjoys working in a high volume, high acuity, multi‑disciplinary clinical setting.

Responsibilities Inpatient Coverage

Provide comprehensive inpatient coverage for FGP patients and unassigned patients requiring obstetric admission.

Admit and manage patients in labor, overseeing routine and complex deliveries, including operative vaginal and cesarean deliveries.

Triage and Evaluation

Evaluate patients presenting in triage as needed and facilitate their admission or discharge as clinically indicated.

Manage postpartum patients, addressing complications of pregnancy and delivery, routine postpartum care, and ensuring timely postpartum discharge.

Neonatal Care

Perform neonatal circumcisions as part of routine postpartum care.

Provide emergency room care for patients experiencing early pregnancy complications.

High‑Risk Patient Supervision

Supervise and deliver care for high‑risk patients, with 24‑hour consultation support from Maternal Fetal Medicine faculty.

Collaborate with General Ob/Gyn physicians for primary management of laboring patients, unless otherwise arranged with Maternal Fetal Medicine.

Quality and Safety

Maintain the highest standards of evidence‑based obstetric care.

Attend to departmental and unit quality and safety goals, including achieving low primary cesarean delivery rates, low episiotomy rates, and prompt recognition and escalation of clinical safety concerns.

Operational Workflows and HRO

Adhere to policies and procedures to enhance operational workflows for patient care.

Facilitate a High Reliability Organization (HRO) by exhibiting professionalism for patients, colleagues, and staff.

Committee Participation

Participate in committees and meetings related to departmental growth, resident education, and quality initiatives, as requested.

Educational and Research Contributions

Contribute to the educational and research goals of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Salary $275,000 to $350,000. The salary range listed is for full‑time employment and does not include incentive compensation. Benefits of the position include health care, tuition reimbursement, and a stipend for career advancement. Actual salary may not fall within the listed salary range; consideration will be made for experience, training, hospital/community need, and other factors.

Qualifications

Doctoral Degree (M.D. or D.O.)

Board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology

Successfully completed a U.S. Accredited OB/GYN Residency training program

New York State Medical license

Five years’ work experience

Strong communication skills
