Incumbents in this position are responsible for participating in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the water and wastewater system. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for responding to sewer service blockages and overflows. This position is assigned to pay grade G13.

Turns water service on and off.

Installs and repairs water and wastewater line and mains.

Installs and repair fire hydrants.

Operate a jet truck.

Installs and repairs clean-outs when able.

Performs cleaning of blocked sewer pipes.

Utilizes camera services to find problems and troubleshoot connections.

Responds to service calls and evaluates problem area and makes determination for solutions.

Performs minor repairs to system not requiring a full crew.

Assists with videoing service lines to pinpoint problems.

Paints and marks sewer service lines and laterals.

Locates, repairs, and raises clean outs.

Establishes safe work zones by using traffic control devices and flags to control traffic as needed.

Responds to emergency situations.

Maintains records of performed jobs and tasks.

Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment.

Assists in the maintenance of equipment and supply inventory.

Operates job related tools and equipment.

Performs inventory/property management.

Performs other related job duties as assigned.

In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Six (6) Months of work experience in a role such as service technician, utility repair technician or any related work field.

Requires NC Grade 1 Collections System Operator certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire date.

NC Grade 2 Collections System Operator certification preferred.

Requires a valid State of North Carolina driver's license or ability to readily obtain upon hire.

This position will be placed on an On-Call rotation that requires a response within 30 minutes of notification.

Requires travel between CFPUA sites.

Use or repair small/light equipment (power tools).

Use or repair medium equipment and machinery (vehicles, commercial mowers).

Use or repair heavy or complex machinery (HVAC systems, construction equipment, water plants).

Physical Requirements Physical demands range from minimal light work at desk or counter level with intermittent periods of sitting, standing, and walking (minimal physical exertion) to sustained physical activity throughout the work period requiring the lifting up to 50 pounds, with occasional use of heavy or complex machinery and additional physical demands as described in the original position description.
