Department Overview: The McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research was established in 1940 as one of the first basic cancer research facilities in the world. The foundation for the development of the Laboratory and the University of Wisconsin's program in experimental cancer research was made possible by the generous donations of private citizens. We house outstanding research programs directed toward understanding the causes and biology of cancer and the factors that regulate normal and neoplastic growth and differentiation, and we provide training of the highest quality in basic cancer research at the graduate and postdoctoral levels.

Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 6 Maximum:12

Schedule: 6-12 hours per week. Must work a minimum of 2 days per week between 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday when labs are open. Flexible work hours offered to fit with class schedule.

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum: Minimum: $12.00

Number of Positions: 1-2

Qualifications: UW‑Madison undergrad student in good standing, regularly available 6-12 hours per week, preferably available year‑round.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: General laboratory safety awareness, ability to receive and follow detailed directions, ability to perform tasks safely and with limited supervision. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Will train the right individual on specific duties.

Position Summary/Job Duties: This position will support our core shared services team with routine laboratory, administrative, and logistical tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Sets up, prepares, and cleans lab equipment

Performs laboratory glassware dish washing

Shelves and organizes stockroom and warehouse inventory

Tracks and/or updates user log tallies

Maintains shipping, receiving, and inventory records

Physical Demands: Occasional standing and walking, ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
