Department Overview
The Design Innovation Lab is a makerspace that serves the College of Engineering. It's one lab with two locations - ours being the one at Wendt Commons.
Anticipated Start Date As early as January 26th
Remote Work Eligibility Detail Not Remote
Anticipated Hours Per Week Minimum: 6 Maximum:20
Schedule 6-10 hours/week
Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum Minimum: $14.00 Maximum: $16.00
Number of Positions 5
Qualifications Prior shop experience is not a requirement, but it is helpful. Students must be currently enrolled undergraduates, though not necessarily in the College of Engineering. Enthusiasm is a requirement! Adding your portfolio to your application is suggested! Due to the amount of training required in this role, we prefer hires that have more than a year left of their schooling.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Though not required, prior experience in a shop and/or with woodworking, welding, home improvement/DIY, or a general prototyping/problem-solving mindset is very useful. Enthusiasm for the work done in the shops and a desire to learn more are the best indicators for success. Comprehensive training is offered depending on the candidate's skills and interests.
All staff members are expected to have good oral and written communication skills and a service-oriented attitude.
Position Summary / Job Duties
Helping users with project work done in the shops (e.g. 3D printing, designing, using machine tools)
Managing access to the shops by welcoming, checking in, and directing visitors and lab users
Assisting our full-time staff with development and delivery of educational training content
Teaching users how to use equipment in both formal and informal settings
Aiding individuals in tool/equipment selection
Maintenance, organization, communication, and other misc. tasks (experience with Adobe Creative Suite, especially video, is a plus!)
Physical Demands Able to lift 30 lbs.
