Public Safety Dispatcher

in the

Safety Department . This position is a

100% onsite opportunity . You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions

Monitor and operate multi-line telephone system.

Monitor and operate hospital radio system.

Monitor and operate hospital surveillance camera network.

Monitor and respond to all fire, duress, infant / child abduction, generator, medical gas and clinical emergency alarms.

Monitor local fire and police radio traffic for emergency events in the community that could impact hospital operations.

Monitor weather alerts for adverse conditions that could impact hospital operations.

Receive and respond to a variety of emergency and non-emergency services and complaints.

Ask questions to interpret, analyze and anticipate the caller’s situation as to resolve problems, provide information, dispatch Public Safety or Plant Operations personnel, or notify local police, fire and EMS agencies for assistance.

Determine and assign the level of priority of the call and enter the data into a computer-aided dispatch system for radio dispatch purposes.

Monitor all Public Safety personnel and document their reported activity.

Monitor and operate hospital emergency code phone in the absence of Telecom operators and provide dispatch support for all clinical and non-clinical hospital emergencies.

Translate information to the appropriate radio codes.

Monitor and operate the hospital Lost and Found program.

Monitor and operate the hospital key checkout program.

Monitor and operate the hospital petty cash fund.

Manufacture employee identification badges as necessary.

Attend to all in-person requests for assistance.

Coordinate the release of all deceased patient remains to medical examiner office, autopsy service, funeral homes and organ donation services.

Provide safekeeping for all patient valuables collected outside standard business hours.

Display excellent customer skills and be able to address hostile callers and in-person traffic.

Required Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

1-2 years of experience as a public safety dispatcher or call center representative preferred.

APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator certification or equivalent preferred.

Shift: 12 hr, Rotating- 6:00pm - 6:30am, 6:00am - 6:30pm

Compensation & Benefits Overview UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
