Job Description Summary D Shift
Job Description
Starts, operates, and shuts down boiler, refrigeration and auxiliary systems. Reads meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals.
Records equipment data in daily logs and sheets.
Adjusts manual or automatic controls to bring equipment into prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup systems, or shut down equipment.
Visually inspects equipment periodically for malfunctions or maintenance needs and takes corrective action.
Performs preventative and general maintenance (lubricating, tightening, cleaning, etc.) and collaborates with B&R Mechanics for larger repairs.
Documents removal, installation, disassembly, repair, and assembly of plant equipment.
Explains the purpose and operation of all boiler and refrigeration equipment and makes decisions on troubleshooting and repairs.
Updates CMMS (computerized maintenance management system) daily with work order results.
Performs non-routine maintenance jobs as assigned.
Maintains organized workspaces, tools, support 5S, and documentation.
Basic & Preferred Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
Lock‑out/Tag‑out certification is required. If you are not qualified, you will be trained and must meet certification requirements.
Skills And Experience
Experience performing maintenance in a manufacturing environment, specifically food processing highly preferred.
Required to pass a pulmonary/fit test yearly (due to the use of SCBA).
Effectively communicate in English verbally and in writing. Ability to understand instructions and follow directions in English, both written and oral. (Requirement may vary by location).
Must be able to be qualified within time frames established by facility.
Ability to perform basic math functions, required.
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer operation knowledge, data entry skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
Applicability of job levels varies by location and is determined by the plant skills matrix.
Physical Environment / Demands
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist and turn frequently.
Exposed to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold in temperature.
Exposure to manufacturing environments to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, slippery conditions, dirt, fumes, smoke, smells and allergies.
Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist and hand movements required for job actions and procedures.
Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Freezer Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Plant Operation.
Climbing to various heights via stairs or ladders on a regular basis.
