Nursery Operations Assistant - Intervale Center/VHCB
Serving as the Nursery Operations Assistant, you'll help propagate and grow tens of thousands of native trees and shrubs for conservation projects statewide and engage volunteers to help grow the conservation movement. This position is part of the Vermont Housing & Conservation Board AmeriCorps (VHCB AmeriCorps). The Intervale Center’s mission is to strengthen community food systems that sustain farms, land, and people. Your service will increase the number of native trees and shrubs grown and planted for statewide restoration projects to improve ecosystem health for Vermont’s vital watersheds. You will also engage hundreds of volunteers.
Position: May 4, 2026 – October 30, 2026 (Half Time: 40 hours per week, 5 months). Living allowance: $16,147 (pre‑tax); education award: $3,697.50 (pre‑tax). Benefits: health insurance, federal school loan forbearance, and training and networking opportunities.
Seed and cutting collection; plant propagation and greenhouse service tasks
Field maintenance including weeding, irrigation, transplant and harvest of native trees
Leading and organizing groups of volunteers at the nursery
Land stewardship responsibilities including invasive species removal and beautification of the Intervale Center
Participate in all VHCB AmeriCorps trainings, service days, events, and program initiatives
Engage in professional and personal development activities and networking opportunities
Attend Intervale Center staff meetings as appropriate
Coordinate with volunteer groups to facilitate smooth volunteer experience and track volunteer hours
Participate in disaster relief services and projects
