Title: Intermediate Network Support Technician
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is seeking an
Intermediate Network Support Technician
to support enterprise network and infrastructure operations. This role is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and optimizing network systems, serving as a Tier 3 escalation resource, and supporting infrastructure modernization initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience with enterprise networking, server infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and advanced troubleshooting in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities
Monitor and resolve network-related incidents and service requests escalated from the Service Desk
Serve as a Tier 3 escalation resource to diagnose and restore degraded or unavailable network services
Install, configure, maintain, and support enterprise network infrastructure, including switches, wireless access points, firewalls, and cabling
Monitor, configure, and optimize Aruba network switches and wireless access points
Install, maintain, and support physical servers used for network and infrastructure services
Administer virtual server environments (Hyper‑V and HCI), including provisioning, maintenance, and high‑availability configurations
Perform advanced network troubleshooting to identify root causes of outages and performance issues
Design and implement secure access controls, file server permissions, client configurations, and group-based ACLs
Collaborate with IT teams to resolve cross‑functional network, server, and application issues
Participate in network refreshes, wireless upgrades, server replacements, and infrastructure modernization projects
Document configurations, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions according to departmental standards
Coordinate vendor support and service calls, including warranty and non‑warranty repairs
Maintain accurate records of network incidents, repairs, and vendor interactions
Evaluate, test, and recommend network technologies to improve performance and reliability
Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to other technicians
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Experience
Minimum
2 years of relevant IT experience
supporting network and infrastructure systems
Experience troubleshooting enterprise network environments and infrastructure components
Experience with virtualization platforms such as
Hyper‑V
and
HCI
Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts including switches, VLANs, wireless networks, and access controls
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
One year of relevant work experience may substitute for one year of education
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to
50 lbs
Ability to stoop, climb ladders, squat, push, crawl, and bend
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
