If you are a team player who enjoys history and working with your hands, we invite you to apply for this seasonal Maintenance Assistant position at Cracker Country, the living history museum at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Cracker Country is a 4‑acre attraction that features historic buildings, gardens, and grounds that showcase a rural Florida community at the turn of the 20th century.
Key Responsibilities
Assist the Museum Director and the Maintenance Coordinator in a variety of building and repair tasks throughout the grounds and historic buildings.
Assist with staging of grounds and facilities for the annual Florida State Fair.
Assist with load‑in and setup of exhibits, historic craft and trade demonstrators, and food vendors during the Florida State Fair.
Assist in the performance of necessary maintenance to all areas of the museum in a timely manner.
Qualifications, Education, and Certifications High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience in basic maintenance and/or carpentry is preferred. Must be able to use basic measurement tools and power tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to work independently
Ability to work on a flexible schedule
Ability to work cooperatively with museum staff and volunteers
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
Physical Demands / Working Conditions Duties are performed primarily outside of an office setting. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and lift or move (more than 20 pounds). Environmental and other exposures include wet/humid conditions, work near mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions.
Salary and Work Details Pay: $15.00 per hour, temporary position, 1 vacancy.
