Facilities Maintenance – Fair Grounds Full Time

$17.57 to $19.38 DOE, full county benefits
PURPOSE OF POSITION Responsible for executing a broad range of skilled maintenance tasks to uphold the safety, operation, and functionality of Harney County Fairgrounds facilities. Provide excellent customer service and perform other related duties as dictated by seasonal needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform maintenance and repairs at the fairgrounds including but not limited to: basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, metal work and painting.
Customer service and effective communication skills
Ensure operational status of facilities for grounds, arena, building, RV and/or stall rentals.
Periodically check operation of outlets, heaters, toilets, sinks, showers, ranges, ovens, fridges, freezers, and fans
Maintain the general appearance of the grounds by operating and caring for grounds maintenance equipment. This includes, but is not limited to: utilizing hoses, sprinklers, rakes, push and riding mowers, weed eaters, and herbicide sprayers.
Remove snow and ice from all parking areas and walkways before and during events if needed.
Operate fairgrounds equipment including an ATV and tractor to help complete repair and maintenance tasks.
Grounds Maintenance :
Mowing, watering, weeding, spraying, flowerbeds, and field care and preparation of the grounds.
Preparing facilities for seasonal
Winterizing plants, beds, and water systems throughout the grounds.
Equipment maintenance
General maintenance on pickups, tractor, lawn mowers, ground hog, saws, ATVs etc.
Including but not limited to: keeping fueled, oil changes, changing blades and teeth.
Rodeo grounds :
Keep track and arena in usable condition.
Keep in good repair all fences, cross fences, wires, poles, or boards.
Keep grandstands in good repair and clean. Sweep or hose grandstand seats before each event.
Prepare for events by cleaning, setting up, hanging banners, working track and arena, cleaning grandstands, and announcers booth and arena office(s).
Organize and complete post event clean up.
Barns :
Keep clean at all times; Before fair or events, hose and scrub to remove residue.
Check all drains on wash racks. During the fair, this needs to be done several times a day.
Paint, if necessary. Everything that is white will be painted or scrubbed.
Hose down black top periodically, always just before fair.
Spray for insects three (3) days before fair.
Stalls :
Keep clean and ready for use.
Keep all doors and stalls in good repair. Maintain and fix as needed.
Keep stall structure checked regularly, make plans for major repairs, and implement repairs plans.
Remove manure and shavings after events or overnight stalling.Manure should be applied to the fields at the fairgrounds. Any excess manure should be sold. Separate metals, wire, etc. from manure. At fair time, arrange for collection and disposal of manure.
Buildings :
Inspect and maintain lighting fixtures. Adjust outside lighting timers as needed throughout the season and events.
Inspect and maintain general plumbing needs and repairs.Keep fire lanes open at all times around buildings and on the grounds.
Be aware of all activities on the grounds and keep a written record of problems or concerns.
Keep all buildings clean and in good repair.
Assist with the logistical setup and takedown of event furniture, including chairs, tables, and the stage.
Ensure all windows and doors are securely closed and locked.
JOB REQUIREMENTS MANDATORY SKILLS
Basic construction, plumbing, electrical, and welding and skills.
Valid driver’s license
Must pass a background check and drug test
Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification within 6 months
Work independently and safely, prioritize daily needs, develop solutions to various maintenance problems that may be encountered
One year of related maintenance experience or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform all of the duties as described.
Use of various hand tools, power tools, and equipment according to OSHA safety standards. Follow all proper maintenance and repair procedures.
Collaborate effectively and respectfully with the Fair Manager, Fair Board, County Court, and other county departments and employees. Maintain constructive and professional communication in all work-related interactions.
