Front Load Garbage Truck Operator (m/w/d) – Interstate Waste Services • Shelton, CT, United States

Responsibilities
Safely operate front, side, or rear‑loading trucks for pick‑up of bags or containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
Transport material to a disposal, transfer, or recycling facility, making one or more trips throughout the shift.
Operate both manual and automatic trucks and repeatedly lift up to 50 lbs and maneuver up to 100 lbs, including mounting and dismounting the truck multiple times per route.
Qualifications
21 years of age and legally eligible to work in the United States.
Valid Class A or B CDL with an air‑brake endorsement.
At least one year of CDL driving experience in the last seven years.
Excellent safety record with a clean MVR.
Preferred experience as a driver or helper for a refuse company.
Working knowledge of DOT, OSHA and applicable traffic regulations.
Ability to speak and read English to converse with the public, understand traffic signals, and make legible entries on records.
Read and understand a map.
Meet the physical and safety requirements of the position.
Willing and able to work required hours as allowed under DOT regulation, including weekend, night, and holiday work.
Additional Job Requirements
Routes may require navigating congested city areas and tight spaces.
Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential.
Drivers routinely climb in and out of the truck cab to service customer accounts.
Perform pre‑ and post‑inspection checks and ensure compliance with IWS safety standards, OSHA, DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
